Using Scéal

Scéal is made for learning and enjoying Irish. You’re welcome to use it on your own, with family, or to support teaching.

Playing fair

To keep Scéal fair for everyone, you must not cheat the cúilíní system, use bots or automated tools, interfere with how the app works, or access anyone else’s account or data. We may remove cúilíní earned unfairly, and suspend or close accounts that break these rules.

Our content

All lessons, stories, recordings, artwork and other content in Scéal are owned by Scéal Intelligence Solutions Limited or its licensors, and are protected by copyright and other intellectual property laws. You may use them only within the app, and share them only through the app’s own share features. You must not copy, record, download, republish, distribute or adapt any of this content, or use it to train artificial intelligence or machine-learning systems, or to create any other product or service, without our written permission.

Accounts

• You must be 16 or over to create an account. Under-16s may use Scéal through a parent’s or guardian’s account, under their supervision.
• Keep your password safe. You’re responsible for what happens on your account.
• You can delete your account at any time in Settings. A business account can be deleted in the app too, with Delete account at the bottom of the business screens, or by emailing us.

Cúilíní

• Cúilíní are reward points you earn by learning in Scéal. You can spend them on rewards in the app.
• They have no cash value. They can’t be exchanged for money, and can’t be transferred or sold.
• Cúilíní end when your account is deleted.

Rewards

• Rewards are provided by the businesses that offer them, not by Scéal. Each business sets its own terms, shown on the offer, and is responsible for honouring it.
• Businesses that offer rewards agree to the Scéal for Business terms.
• We can change or end offers at any time. Once you’ve redeemed a reward, take any issue with it up with the business first; if you can’t sort it out, email us.

Our responsibility to you

We work hard to keep Scéal accurate and available, but we provide it “as is” and can’t promise it will always be uninterrupted or error-free. Rewards are provided by the businesses that offer them. We’re not responsible for a business’s goods or services, or if a business doesn’t honour an offer, though we’ll help where we can. We’re not responsible for losses that weren’t foreseeable when you started using Scéal, or for any business losses. Nothing in these terms limits our responsibility for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that can’t be limited under Irish law. Nothing in these terms takes away your rights as a consumer under Irish or EU law.

Governing law

These terms are governed by Irish law, and disputes can be heard in the Irish courts. If you live elsewhere in the EU, you keep the protection of your own country’s consumer laws.

Changes and contact

We may change, add or remove features over time. If we change these terms, we’ll update this page and the date at the top, and tell you in the app or by email if the change matters to you. Questions? Email hello@sceal.studio. See also our privacy policy.
