Scéal for Business
Scéal for Business terms
These terms apply to businesses that offer rewards to Scéal learners through Scéal for Business. They sit alongside our terms of service and privacy policy. Scéal is run by Scéal Intelligence Solutions Limited, registered in Ireland (company number 827326). When you tick the box in the app and send your business for approval, you agree to these terms.

Who can join
- You must be 18 or over, and authorised to act for the business.
- A business account is separate from a learner account. One email can’t be both, so use a different email for your business if you already learn with Scéal.
- Your business sign-in needs a confirmed email address before you can send anything for approval.
- Scéal for Business is a pilot. During the pilot, the business screens in the app and these terms are in English only.
Your sign-in and the owner PIN
- Your business has one sign-in, an email and a password. Everyone at your business who confirms codes signs in with it, on their own phone, so choose a password you’re happy to share with your staff. Don’t reuse a personal password.
- The owner sets a 4-digit owner PIN. The app asks for it before your offer is paused or deleted, and before your business account is deleted. Staff don’t need it to scan or type a learner’s code. Keep the PIN to the owner.
- We store the PIN scrambled (hashed), never as you typed it. After 5 wrong tries the PIN is locked for a while, and each lock lasts longer.
- Forgot your PIN? Email hello@sceal.studio from your business sign-in email. We’ll phone the contact number you gave us, reset the PIN and give you a temporary PIN by phone. It works once, for 24 hours, and you then choose a new PIN.
Joining is free
There is no charge to join Scéal for Business or to list your offer. Scéal doesn’t take a fee or a share of your sales.
Your offer
- Your offer is yours. You choose it and you pay for it: Scéal doesn’t pay you for codes. You honour it for every valid code a Scéal learner gives you.
- You’re responsible for the goods or services in your offer.
- You have one offer at a time.
- You keep your business details accurate and up to date.
Approval and the price in cúilíní
- Scéal checks every business and every offer before learners see it. We may approve or decline, and if we decline we tell you why. You can change your details and apply again.
- When we approve an offer, Scéal sets its price in cúilíní, the points learners earn by learning Irish in the app. You don’t set the price.
- You can send to Scéal for approval up to 3 times a day.
- Scéal can pause or remove any offer, and can suspend or close a business account, for example if an offer isn’t honoured.
Codes
When a learner redeems your offer, they spend cúilíní and get a code that starts with SCL-. Each code works once, and the app tells you whether a code is valid. A code that has been used can’t be used again.
- In person: the learner shows a QR code on their phone or reads out their code. You scan it or type it in. The code on their screen is valid for a limited time; if it has run out, the learner taps “Get a new code” and the same code works again.
- Book online or Email: the learner gives you their code in your booking form or in an email. These codes last 30 days from when the learner redeems.
- You confirm each code in the Scéal app, in your business area, by scanning it or typing it. For Book online and Email, confirm the code as soon as the booking or email arrives, not at the appointment.
- If too many wrong codes are typed in a short time, the app asks you to wait a few minutes.
Learners’ details
- When you confirm a code you see “Scéal learner” and the code. Scéal never gives you a learner’s name, email or other details, and you never contact learners through Scéal.
- If a learner books online or emails you, you’ll see what they choose to send you, such as their name or email address. Use it only to give them your offer.
- The contact details you give us “for Scéal only” are never shown to learners. Your booking link and your email address for redemptions are shown only to a learner who has paid for a code. See our privacy policy for what we hold about your business.
Pausing and deleting your offer
- You can pause your offer at any time, with the owner PIN. Learners can’t redeem it while it’s paused, and you still honour codes that were already paid for.
- You can delete your offer at any time, with the owner PIN. Learners no longer see it, and anyone who paid for a code and hasn’t used it gets their cúilíní back. You can then create a new offer, which we check before it goes live.
- If Scéal removes your offer, or suspends or closes your business account, learners who paid for a code and haven’t used it also get their cúilíní back.
Deleting your business account
You can delete your business account in the app, with Delete account on the Business account page (the gear in the top corner of the business screens) and the owner PIN, or by emailing hello@sceal.studio from your business sign-in email. It can’t be undone: to come back, you sign up again.
When your business account is deleted:
- your offer ends, and learners who paid for a code and haven’t used it get their cúilíní back;
- your sign-in, sign-in email, address, Irish story, booking link, redemption email and the details you gave us for Scéal only are removed;
- we keep a closed record of your business (its name, its city, its past offers and our decisions on your applications), so learners who got a code from you still see it in their own history and their totals stay correct. If no learner ever got a code from you, your name isn’t kept either.
Changes and contact
If we change these terms, we’ll update this page and the date at the top, and tell you by email or in the app if the change matters to you. These terms are governed by Irish law, as set out in our terms of service. Questions? Email hello@sceal.studio.
